My WHY happened like this …
I was living the dream in Bondi, where I met my husband. In a whirlwind we were married and excepting our first baby and had moved back to our home town of Brisbane. So, in a space of a couple of years, I went from my Sydney life of fast pace work and play, to Motherhood of two boys under two, living in the Brissy burbs.
In a body I didn’t recognise, with major sleep deprivation and with this obsession of doing everything perfectly. I didn’t know at the time I was struggling with postnatal depression, as I put on a brave face and I remembered thinking that surely everyone must be faking this whole motherhood thing.
Then my lifeline was my husband suggesting I get a “fun job” which was basically getting me out of the house on a Saturday when he could mind the boys & I could just be me.
So in September 2008, I started in fashion retail and straight away I found myself in change rooms having heartfelt conversations with women about how they were feeling about themselves. It was very apparent that I wasn’t alone & there were SO MANY women feeling not so good about themselves. So with each woman I helped feel a little happier about herself, I too would feel a little happier. I wasn’t just trying to sell clothes, I was helping someone feel absolutely amazing when they looked in the mirror.
I then studied and got accredited as a stylist in 2015 and started my own business IndividualSTYLE101.
7 years later, I have been fortunate to have styled well over 5000 women though personal styling sessions, with contracts as head stylist for Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, wardrobe stylist for Channel 7 Brisbane as well as a number of editorial and fashion shoots for local talent and brands.
My ‘why’ is simple, when asked what I love the most about my job, my reply has always been the ability to transform women’s opinions of themselves.
